Natal Chart (Radix)
The radix (Latin for "root") is the natal chart: the calculated positions of the Sun, Moon and planets in the zodiac at the time and place of birth. It's the basis for every further astrological reading.
A natal chart shows calculated positions for a date, time and place. Where the birth time is known, the axes — Ascendant and Midheaven — are added, along with the aspects, meaning the angular relationships between the points. Given identical input data, the calculated result is identical too.
Astrological schools read the natal chart as a symbolic model of various themes. Within it, the Sun sign is just one point alongside the Moon, the Ascendant and the aspect structure. Transits and synastry use the natal positions as their geometric reference frame.
The natal chart is neither a blueprint of fate nor a personality measurement. The astronomical positions are calculated; statements about traits or themes belong to astrological tradition.
