Trine

The trine is the 120° aspect — a third of the zodiac. In astrological tradition it's read as a flowing connection between two themes.

In a trine, two chart points are 120° of ecliptic longitude apart. In the zodiac it connects signs of the same element: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius (fire) form trines among themselves, as do the earth, air and water signs. This shared element is the classical basis for its harmonious character — the forces involved are said to "speak the same language."

Traditional texts link the trine with ease and things coming naturally. That implies neither talent nor actual success. Leitstern uses the association only as one possible angle and adds a checkable, practical step alongside it.

A common misreading is to take trines as a guarantee of good luck. Like every aspect, the trine describes a geometric relationship that gets read symbolically as a quality — it promises nothing and prevents nothing.

How we use this term

Leitstern calculates trines in natal charts, transits and synastry, and shows the respective deviation from the exact 120° angle as the orb.
